Carrying People to Jesus: The Courage to Care
When you look around—at intersections, busy streets, or even quiet corners of your town—you’ll see people holding signs. Some ask for money, some ask for help, and some simply stand there hoping someone will notice. But the truth is deeper: most people are carrying signs you can’t see.
Signs that say I’m overwhelmed, I’m anxious, I’m lonely, I’m drowning, I need someone to care.
That’s the heartbeat of a mature Christian - a caring Christian. It’s a call to spiritual maturity, compassion, and action. Not just to pray, not just to hope, not just to say “call me if you need anything”—but to show up.
The Invisible Signs People Carry
We live in a culture where emotional exhaustion is normal. Anxiety, stress, addiction, burnout, and spiritual confusion are everywhere. People are stuck in “beds” they didn’t choose—or beds they don’t know how to get out of. And just like the paralytic in Mark 2, many can’t get to Jesus on their own.
The Four Friends Who Refused to Look Away
Mark 2 gives us a picture of what mature faith looks like. Four friends saw a man who couldn’t help himself. They didn’t ignore him. They didn’t say “I’ll pray for you” and walk away. They carried him. They climbed a roof. They tore it open. They lowered him to Jesus.
And then—they let go. That moment is where faith becomes visible. Not in the talking, not in the planning, not in the posting—but in the releasing.
What Mature People Do
Mature believers care enough to act. Care enough to lift someone. Care enough to interrupt their schedule. Care enough to get involved in someone else’s mess.
And mature believers also recognize when they are the ones in the bed. Jesus still says, “Arise.” You don’t have to stay stuck in anxiety, stress, addiction, or spiritual confusion. You have two options: stay in the bed, or get up.
Who Needs You to Care Today?
Someone in your life is carrying a sign. Someone is stuck in a bed. Someone needs you to be one of the four. Someone needs you to care enough to act—and care enough to let go.
This is what spiritual maturity looks like. This is what courage looks like. This is what faith looks like.
Spiritual maturity is the courage to care and sometimes, to carry people to Jesus.
